A 17-year-old girl died from her injuries Wednesday after she was hit by a vehicle while crossing the street outside Children’s Mercy Park a day earlier in Kansas City, Kansas, police said.

The victim was identified as Summer Lynn of Kansas City, according to Nancy Chartrand with the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.

She said the collision was still under investigation Thursday.

The vehicle hit the teen shortly before 9 p.m. Tuesday during the rain-delayed start of a U.S. Open Cup match between Sporting KC and Indy Eleven. The girl was hit while crossing Village West Parkway at its intersection with France Family Drive. She was critically injured and taken to a hospital for treatment, police said.

Police said Tuesday the driver remained at the scene and was cooperative with investigators. Preliminary investigation showed that weather, speed and driver impairment did not contribute to the crash, Chartrand said Tuesday evening.

Anyone with information about the incident may contact police by calling the TIPS hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).
