An 18-year-old man has died nearly a week after he was hit in the head, and his death is now being investigated as a homicide, according to Kansas City police.

The victim, identified by authorities as Montague Ashline, was hit on Aug. 21, and investigators learned he had died from his injuries Monday, said Sgt. Phil DiMartino, a spokesperson for the department.

Police were called to the 5000 block of Swope Parkway around 6:30 that eveningfor a reported disturbance and found Ashline suffering from head trauma, DiMartino said. Ashline was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

DiMartino said investigators determined there was an “interaction” in a group that led to Ashline being struck with an object. Police have not publicly identified the object used, or provided further detail on the interaction.

Anyone with information about the incident may contact detectives directly at 816-234-5043 or by calling the TIPS Hotline anonymously at 816-474-TIPS. There is a reward of up to $25,000 for information submitted anonymously to the TIPS hotline.
