A child was hospitalized after they were found unresponsive in a Kansas City apartment building Sunday, according to the Kansas City Fire Department.

Battalion chief Michael Hopkins, a KCFD spokesperson, confirmed the fire department responded to an apartment building near Gladstone Elementary School in the Indian Mound neighborhood of Kansas City around 3:45 p.m. Sunday.

Someone had called the department to respond to a medical emergency, Hopkins said. The child was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition. By Monday, their condition had stabilized, Hopkins said.

Hopkins declined to share the child’s age or additional details about the condition in which they were found, citing privacy guidelines regarding fire department medical calls.
