Pedestrian hit by truck on U.S. 40 Highway Saturday morning dies: Police

The pedestrian has been identified as 40-year-old Kansas City, Missouri, native Janeicka Hays.

A pedestrian was hit and killed early Saturday morning in Independence, according to police.

Authorities said the driver of a 2003 Ford F-150 was traveling east on U.S. Highway 40 east of Crysler Avenue, when they hit someone walking in the road.

Paramedics responded and pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene.

The driver of the Ford F-150 remained at the scene and has cooperated with the investigation, police said in a release.

According to police, a witness told officers the pedestrian was walking in the lane of traffic when they were hit.

No other information was available Saturday. An investigation is ongoing.
