The Kansas City Chiefs set off on their quest for a third straight Super Bowl by returning to training camp this week with a lot of new followers watching from afar.
Taylor Swift fans don’t miss anything that happens to/around/near her boyfriend, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. And right now they seem to be in shock about what training camp looks like for Kelce and his teammates.
For the 14th straight season, the Chiefs are conducting training camp at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, about 55 miles north of downtown Kansas City.
For fans who just started following the team after Kelce and Swift began dating last season, training camp is a whole new ballgame.
He has to live in a — gasp! — dorm room?
After he and Swift spent romantic summer breaks in Europe in the lap of luxury?
Swifties unfamiliar with how the NFL works seem worried that their favorite couple will be cut off from each other for the next few weeks.
On the bright side … will there be sleepovers?
Traveling away from home to train used to be the norm in the NFL. Now the Chiefs are among just a handful who still do.
Coach Andy Reid prefers it this way, a distraction-free zone for players to focus and build camaraderie.
Swift fans might understand that, but they clearly would prefer more luxurious accommodations for their favorite “guy on the Chiefs.”
Maybe the Chiefs should have let one of those Southern sororities — known for their over-the-top bedrooms — decorate the dorm?
“So this is where the guys have to sleep for a month in training camp! It’s worse than most dorm rooms!” tweeted one Swiftie. “But if Travis can bring his own bedding, I’m sure he’ll be A-OK! *This is real bedding, btw.”
She included a photo of bedsheets printed with Swift photos.
Many fans imagined that Kelce would kit out his room with lots and lots and lots and lots of pictures of her.
Kelce is expected at camp on Friday, but Swifties are already focused on their possible last chance to see the couple together for a while.
