Driver fatally struck pedestrian in collision in Overland Park on Independence Day

A pedestrian died from injuries he suffered after he was struck by a vehicle along West 95th Street in Overland Park Thursday night, police said.

The victim, who police identified as Joshua Willet, 36, was taken to a hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Police were summoned to the intersection of West 95th and Hadley streets around 11 p.m. after Willet, who was walking east on a sidewalk was hit by a passing vehicle, Officer John Lacy, a police spokesman said in a news release.

Lacy said the driver left the scene but later contacted investigators and was cooperating with the investigation. No other details were released.
