Kansas City police SUV hits car that ran a stop sign, injuring driver, authorities say
A driver was injured Monday when the car he was driving ran a stop sign and was hit by an SUV belonging to the Kansas City Police Department, authorities said.
A blue Ford Explorer marked as a police vehicle was headed northbound on Woodland Avenue through the intersection at East 57th Street when a white Mitsubishi Endeavor entered the intersection, Sgt. Phil DiMartino, a KCPD spokesperson, said Monday. The Endeavor did not stop at the stop sign as the SUV drove through the intersection and the SUV struck the car, DiMartino said.
The driver of the Mitsubishi was taken to a local hospital, where he is in stable condition, DiMartino said. The driver’s injuries do not appear life-threatening, and there was no one else in the car.
The driver of the police SUV, along with a passenger, both suffered minor injuries but were not taken to a hospital, DiMartino said.
KCPD is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident.
Since June 2023, 4,351 people have been injured in traffic accidents involving failure to obey a road sign, according to state data.
