Want to beat the heat in Kansas City? Check out these cooling centers and splash pads
Temperatures in Kansas City are reaching 100 degrees, and community centers around the area are hoping to provide relief to those who want to beat the heat.
Over a dozen community centers, libraries, and splash areas are open for the public to use as cooling centers during the heat wave.
If you’re caught out in the sun, there are several community centers and water parks where you can cool down.

City and county libraries
All 14 libraries under the Johnson County Library will serve as cooling centers during high-temperature days. Your closest branch can be found online, including 10 libraries within the Kansas City Public Library system.
Public Kansas City splash pads and water parks
Splash parks around the metro also serve as a place for residents to cool down from the sun, and they’re free to the public.
Kansas City has nine splash pads open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day: Blue Valley Park, Douglas Park, Gillham Park, Harmony Park, Longview Tract, Lykins Square, Parade Park, Spring Valley Park and Sunnyside Park.
As are Lee’s Summit’s splash pads: Howard Park, Lea McKeighan Park and Miller J. Fields Park, and Grandview’s splash pads at The View and at John Anderson Park.
Overland Park’s splash pads — Roe Park, Sapling Grove Park, and Thompson Park — are open to everyone.
Two spray parks in KCK — Eisenhower Park and Pierson Park — will be open for visitors.
