The Clay County Sheriff’s Office said late Wednesday a woman was in jail, accused of murdering her husband the previous day.

Melissa I. Hoffner-Allen is charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action in the death of her husband, Ricky Allen, 50, the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. Hoffner-Allen was being held in the Clay County Detention Center on a $250,000 bond.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office said a call came into 911 about 10 p.m. Tuesday, reporting that a man had been shot at a home in the 16200 block Kountry Ridge Drive, north of Kearney, Missouri. The man, later identified as Allen, subsequently died at the scene. The Sheriff’s Office previously said deputies took a “person of interest” into custody.

No other details were immediately available.
