Three people were critically injured in a three-car pileup Wednesday in Kansas City after a Jeep Wrangler lost a tire in the middle of the road.

The Jeep was driving west on 23th Street when its back left tire and rim fell off, sending the Jeep off course, according to Capt. Jacob Becchina, a Kansas City Police Department spokesperson.

The Jeep swerved across the double yellow lines dividing traffic, Becchina said, hitting a Subaru Forrester and a Nissan Vera driving east. Two of the passengers in the Nissan, along with its driver, were critically injured in the crash.

The drivers of the Jeep and Subaru were not harmed.

The three injured crash victims are currently in stable condition at a local hospital as Kansas City police investigate the scene.
