A 32-year-old motorcyclist died in a fiery crash with a truck Thursday evening in Lee’s Summit, a police spokesman said.

The motorcyclist was identified as Benjamin A. Zumwalt of Lee’s Summit, said Sgt. Chris Depue with the Lee’s Summit Police Department.

Officers responded to the two-vehicle crash at about 7:45 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of Northeast Todd George Road and Northeast Chimpan Road.

According to the initial investigation, Zumwalt was headed south on Todd George Road. A truck on Chipman Road was turning north onto Todd George Road, Depue said. The motorcycle and truck collided, causing both vehicles to catch fire.

Zumwalt, who was the lone rider on the motorcycle, was injured in the crash. Emergency medical workers took him to a trauma center where he was pronounced dead, Depue said.

The truck’s driver was evaluated at the scene by paramedics and declined to be taken to a hospital.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
