The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office found a body near Clinton State Park just outside Lawrence that matches the description of an Overland Park man who was reported missing last week.

Around 5:40 p.m. Sunday, a hiker walking a trail near Clinton Overlook Park told officials he saw someone in a heavily wooded area, the sheriff’s office wrote on Facebook.

Once deputies entered the wooded area, they found a dead person who appeared to match the description of David Kyle Kempker, 53, who had been reported missing to Overland Park police Tuesday.

Deputies had searched for Kempker throughout the state park from Wednesday through Friday after a vehicle associated with him was found there within 24 hours of the initial missing person report.

Officials notified Kempker’s family members of the development. The investigation is ongoing as the coroner’s report is pending.
