One person was seriously injured in a Kansas City crash late Monday morning between a tow truck and a medical transport van, according to police.

Officers and emergency medical personnel responded around 11:45 a.m. to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Bellaire Avenue, Kansas City police said in a written statement Monday afternoon.

The driver and lone occupant of a Dodge Caravan, operating as a medical transport, was pulled from the wrecked vehicle, according to police, and taken to the hospital with critical injuries.

Investigators determined the driver of the van failed to navigate a curve on MLK and crossed into the wrong lanes of traffic. He struck a Ford pickup truck that was towing another vehicle, police said.

The driver and a passenger in the tow truck were not injured, police said.
