Police are investigating possible impairment after one person was injured Saturday night in a wrong-way crash in Kansas City.

Officers responded around 10:14 p.m. to the three-vehicle crash in the area of Independence and Cambridge avenues, according to Officer Alayna Gonzalez, a spokeswoman for the Kansas City Police Department.

A silver Chevy Impala was traveling the wrong direction in the westbound lanes of Independence Avenue at a high speed, when a tan Chrysler 300 swerved to avoid a head-on collision with the Chevy.

The rear of the Chrysler was hit, and the Chevy continued and struck a black Chevy Colorado pickup truck head on.

The Impala driver was taken to a hospital with critical injuries. She wasn’t wearing a seatbelt. Police are investigating impairment as a potential factor in the crash.

The driver of the pickup truck was treated for injuries that were not life-threatening. He was wearing a seat belt.

The driver and passenger in the Chrsyler were not injured.
