Drivers should expect more delays along I-435 in Johnson County

Drivers along eastbound Interstate 435 near the Interstate 35 interchange will have their patience tested this week as the highway is closed for bridge construction.

Beginning at 10 p.m. Wednesday, eastbound I-435 is closed from Lackman to Pflumm roads so crews can install bridge girders for the new flyover ramp to northbound I-35. The highway reopens by 5 a.m.

There will be additional overnight closures beginning at 10 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The highway will reopen by 5 a.m. the next morning.

During the closures, the following detours will be in place:

Eastbound I-435 through traffic: Traffic will detour north on I-35, east on 87th Street Parkway and south on U.S. 69 to access eastbound I-435.

Southbound I-35 ramp to eastbound I-435: Traffic will detour by continuing south on I-35, east on 119th Street and then north on I-35 to access eastbound I-435.

Lackman Road ramp to eastbound I-435: Traffic will detour south on Lackman, east on College Boulevard and north on Quivira Road to access eastbound I-435.

Drivers in that area also can expect other closures as part of the Johnson County Gateway Project.

All lanes of Renner Boulevard north of the ramps to westbound Kansas 10 as well as the ramps to and from Kansas 10 will be closed beginning at 1 a.m. Thursday so crews can complete the reconstruction of the interchange ramps and Renner, both north and south of K-10. The closures will remain through Sept. 5, weather permitting.

In April, all lanes of Renner at Kansas 10 and the ramps to and from eastbound K-10 closed as part of the project. The eastbound Kansas 10 and Renner ramps are expected to reopen next month.

During the closures, traffic will detour along Ridgeview Road and College Boulevard to access Renner south of Kansas 10.

Traffic also will detour along northbound Interstate 435 to 95th Street to access Renner north of Kansas 10.
