A man died following a house fire early Tuesday in Kansas City.

Crews responded around 4 a.m. to the fire in the 5100 block of Brooklyn Avenue, where they saw heavy fire coming from multiple floors, according to Michael Hopkins, a spokesman for the Kansas City Fire Department.

After bringing the fire under control, firefighters entered the home to put out hot spots and search for victims.

They found an approximately 40-year-old man in a back area of the house, where the fire was most intense. He was pronounced dead.

The man was the only occupant of the home.

Because of the death, the Kansas City Police Department bomb and arson squad will investigate the cause of the fire.
