French bistro has been popular in KC for years. Soon it’s coming to Johnson County, too
More than a year after Pig & Finch closed in Leawood’s Park Place, a popular Kansas City French bistro will move into the spot.
Aixois, which has operated in the Crestwood Shops at 251 E. 55th St. since 2001, will open its second location at 11570 Ash St.
Owner Emmanuel Langlade said he hopes to open the new spot at the beginning of next year. He called the former Pig & Finch space a “great location.”
“Park Place is definitely a place where I always wanted to be,” Langlade said. “It has a bit more character than other new places.”
After years of feeling he was too busy to expand the business, he said he can open another restaurant with the assistance of one of his employees, chef Simon Soeun, who will co-own the Leawood spot.
Like his first restaurant, the new Aixois will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. The menu will be similar, featuring trout, quiche, escargot, frog legs and pastries.
There will be a few special offerings for the spot, but Langlade said he and Soeun are still perfecting the menu.
The new space will have a similar look and feel, too, deep reds, dark wood and antique accents. Langlade said he wants it to be a place to buy an authentic French meal, or to simply chat and sip a glass of wine.
“We want to be a place where people can come multiple times a week,” he said.
The current restaurant serves such popular items as Moules Marinières, or mussels in broth ($22) and Pâtes Fraȋches aux Legumes — sauteed vegetables and fettuccini pasta ($18).
Pig & Finch, owned by 801 Restaurant Group, closed in August 2022 after operating there for nearly a decade. It sold such items as prime rib, shrimp and fried chicken.
