A 4-year-old boy was killed and three other children injured when the utility task vehicle they were riding overturned Sunday afternoon in rural Pettis County, according to a crash report from the Missouri Highway Patrol.

A 34-year-old woman was driving the 2022 Can-Am UTV about 4:30 p.m. Sunday through a yard near Liberty School Road and U Highway south of Sedalia, according to the highway patrol.

She made a sharp left turn and the UTV overturned, partially ejecting the 4-year-old child, according to the crash report.

The child was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after the crash. The identity of the child was not released.

A private vehicle took the three other children, ages 3, 6 and 7, to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries, according to the highway patrol.

The crash remains under investigation, said Sgt. Andy Bell, a spokesman for the Missouri Highway Patrol.
