Man dies two days after wrong-way crash Friday night in Kansas City, police say
A man died two days after a wrong-way crash Friday in Kansas City.
Officers responded around 7:35 p.m. Friday to a two-vehicle crash in the area of northbound U.S. 71 Highway and East 75th Street, according to Capt. Corey Carlisle, a spokesman for the Kansas City Police Department.
Two days later, Christopher T. Lucas, 23, was pronounced dead.
Police said Lucas was driving his Nissan Murano in the wrong direction in the northbound lanes of 71 Highway, at one point leaving the roadway and driving on the grassy median before returning to the highway.
The Nissan continued traveling in the wrong direction until it struck a concrete bridge overpass at 75th Street. Lucas’ car rotated from the impact and was hit by a northbound white Ram 1500 pickup truck.
The Ram struck the guardrail and partially overturned.
Lucas was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries before he was pronounced dead Sunday.
Police were investigating possible impairment in the crash.
The Ram driver was seriously injured, and a passenger in the truck had minor injuries.
