Watch ‘The Voice’ winner electrify Arrowhead crowd with rendition of national anthem

Gospel singer-songwriter Jordan Smith, the winner of season 9 of NBC’s The Voice got Arrowhead Stadium rocking with his rendition of the national anthem just before the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Denver Broncos last Thursday.

In 2015, singer Adam Levine selected Smith during the show’s blind audition round. The three-time Grammy award winner praised Smith’s voice, even saying “I’ve learned that I’m not as good a singer as he is, which makes me want to be a better singer,” Levine said in a post-finale press conference. “Because let’s be honest, he’s way better than I am.”

At the time, Smith was the best-selling singer ever on The Voice. In fact, his cover of Queen’s “Somebody to Love” ended Adele’s five-week reign on iTunes with “Hello.”

On Thursday, Smith showed the 73,528 fans in attendance he’s still got it nearly eight years after winning The Voice. Smith displayed his vocal prowess, performing the anthem with touches of vibrato and impressive octave climbs. At one point, cameras captured Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones smiling — seemingly in amazement — as Smith’s perfect pitch echoed throughout the stadium.
