Conservation agents found 2 bucks stuck by antlers in Platte County. One died, other freed

Missouri Department of Conservation

Missouri Conservation agents recently saved the life of one of two bucks in Platte County after finding them with their antlers interlocked.

The Department of Conservation shared a post on social media Monday saying two agents, Aaron Post and Doug Yeager, responded to the call for service. One of the bucks was dead by the time they arrived, according to the state agency.

A photograph shared by the conservation department showed both bucks, including one that appeared limp. The agents managed to break the surviving buck free “with a huge tug,” according to a post on Facebook.

After the other buck broke free, he jumped a fence and ran away, the conservation department said.

Bucks often spar with one another during the mating season for deer. The buck that died in Platte County appeared to have a broken neck, according to the conservation department.

News caught some attention on Facebook page, where many commenters applauded the conservation agents for their work and expressed sadness at the death of one buck.

“Sad event. But nature is nature and often brutal! Thanks for doing what you do,” one wrote on the Facebook page.
