Driver dies after losing control, crashing into tree on Brookside Boulevard in Kansas City
A driver died at a hospital after he lost control of a silver Chevrolet Cobalt and slammed into a large tree along Brookside Boulevard in Kansas City Thursday night, a police spokeswoman said.
The fatal crash occurred about 9:50 p.m. near East 53rd Street and Brookside Boulevard in the Countryside neighborhood of Kansas City, said Officer Alayna Gonzalez with the Kansas City Police Department.
A preliminary investigation revealed the driver was traveling at “a high rate of speed” and lost control of the car, she said. The car went off the road to the left and struck a large tree. The area is near Country Side Park.
The driver, who was unrestrained, was critically injured in the crash and was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving, Gonzalez said.
The age and identity of the driver was not released.
The driver’s death is Kansas City’s 71st traffic fatality of the year.
