Several people were injured following a crash Tuesday night in Independence that included a police vehicle.

Officers responded around 7:53 p.m. to the crash on U.S. 24 Highway just west of River Boulevard, said Sgt. Jeff Buck, a spokesman with the Independence Police Department.

A Chevrolet Traverse traveling eastbound on the highway swerved into opposing traffic and hit a Chrysler 200. The impact pushed the Chrysler into the driver’s side of an Independence police vehicle.

Buck said the Chevrolet driver was taken to a hospital with serious injuries. The driver and passenger from the Chrysler were also taken to a hospital. The Independence officer was taken to a hospital but later released.

Police continue to investigate the crash.
