A Kansas City officer is recovering from serious injuries in the hospital after he was ejected from his motorcycle in Westport, police said.

As the officer was driving north on Southwest Trafficway around 9:36 a.m. Monday, he crossed Westport Road and his motorcycle “struck loose roadway material,” according to an initial incident description from the Kansas City Police Department.

The officer lost control of his bike, was thrown from the motorcycle and hit head head on the road, according to the report.

He remains hospitalized with serious injuries, but has since been listed in stable condition, police said.
