Man drowns in Miami County lake
The body of a drowning victim was recovered late Sunday night from the lake at Hillsdale State Park in Miami County.
The Miami County Sheriff’s Office identified the victim as 20-year-old Osvaldo Nievez-Quesada of Kansas City, Kan.
Sheriff’s deputies weres called about 7:20 p.m. Sunday to the Jayhawk swimming beach on a reported drowning.
Witnesses told deputies that a young man was in a designated swimming area when he appeared to be having difficulty before disappearing under the water.
Searchers from several different agencies looked for several hours before finding the victim in about nine feet of water, 20 yards from the shore.
