Kansas City firefighters responded to a Saturday morning house fire, where a caller initially reported that someone was stuck on the second floor.

After a search, however, no one was found inside the home, according to Michael Hopkins, a spokesman for the Kansas City Fire Department.

Crews arrived at the 1600 block of Belmont Avenue just after 10:30 a.m. and began battling the heavy smoke and fire.

The blaze appeared to have originated from the second floor bathroom, Hopkins said.

It took less than half an hour for firefighters to extinguish the flames, which left the home with moderate damage.

The fire’s cause was still under investigation, Hopkins said.
