Jackson Mahomes returns to social media, posts photo of charity work. It’s gone now
Jackson Mahomes all but disappeared from social media after the owner of a Johnson County restaurant accused him of forcibly kissing her in February. The case against him — three felony charges and a misdemeanor — is making its way through the courts, with another hearing set for the end of this month.
As a social media influencer, Mahomes’ prolific activity and more than a million followers helped make him a celebrity apart from his brother, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
But Mahomes reappeared this week when he joined representatives from CommunityAmerica Credit Union delivering “Happy Kits” of craft supplies, books and other children’s goodies to Children’s Mercy hospital.
He posted a photo of his visit to his Instagram Stories, which disappear after 24 hours. It showed him in a group outside the hospital, all wearing matching red CommunityAmerica T-shirts.
The caption above the CommunityAmerica logo on the photo read: “It was a great morning at @Childrensmercy as we proudly donated 1,000 Happy Kits.”
CommunityAmerica did not immediately answer The Star’s requests for comment.
The Lenexa-based credit union has close ties to the Chiefs as the team’s official banking partner. The Super Bowl MVP, for instance, has a partnership deal with the company and has starred in commercials as its spokesman.
Last year the credit union also launched a financial education and philanthropic project with Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce to boost financial literacy for Kansas City residents.
He went to Taylor Swift concert
Jackson Mahomes has been largely MIA from Instagram and TikTok during his ongoing legal problems, staying mostly in the background of family members’ posts.
Most recently he was seen in a luxury box at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium with his brother and sister-in-law, Brittany, at the second of two Taylor Swift shows in July.
This week, The Star reported that Aspens Restaurant and Lounge at 6995 W. 151st St. in Overland Park, the location of the alleged Feb. 25 incident, is closed now and available for lease.
Mahomes was arrested and charged in May with three felony counts of aggravated sexual battery and one misdemeanor count of battery. He is accused of shoving a 19-year-old waiter at the restaurant, then grabbing the restaurant’s owner, Aspen Vaughn, by the neck and forcibly kissing her three times in her office.
His attorney, Brandan Davies, says that Mahomes did nothing wrong and that “substantial evidence” can refute Vaughn’s claim.
Vaughn has said she endured death threats and harassment, even vandalism to the restaurant since going public about the incident. With business down as much as 75%, she is ready to move on, a restaurant employee told The Star this week.
County prosecutors have subpoenaed her to testify at a preliminary hearing for Mahomes on Aug. 31, Vaughn told The Star.
Johnson County District Attorney Steve Howe’s office had no comment on the case last week.
