Two more rounds of showers to move through KC area on Sunday. One could be severe
Two more rounds of rain are expected to drop across the Kansas City metro over the weekend and one later Sunday could be severe, the National Weather Service said.
Brad Temeyer, a lead forecaster with the weather service’s Pleasant Hill office, said showers and wind gusts up to 40 mph were possible during the first round Sunday, which should ease by 1 p.m.
Just before 10:30 a.m., the weather service posted on social media that no watches or warnings were in effect.
No severe weather was expected, but that could change when another weather system moves into the area later Sunday. Storms producing rain and possibly thunder were expected to start after 8 p.m.
A summer storm late Friday afternoon walloped the area, downing trees and power lines, and leaving more than 186,000 people without power. By Sunday morning, Evergy had restored power to more than 75% of their customers, but 30,000 remained without electricity, the utilities company said.
Courtney Lewis, a spokeswoman for Evergy, said they are watching Sunday’s weather closely and will make adjustments if needed.
