A pedestrian was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries on Tuesday after being struck by a car at East 63rd Street and The Paseo, according to police.

Officers were dispatched shortly before 5 p.m. in response to the crash at the northeast corner of the busy intersection, according to a written statement from the Kansas City Police Department.

Crash investigators determined that the pedestrian got off a KCATA bus and ran in front of the bus across the westbound lanes of East 63rd Street.

A Volkswagen Jetta passed the bus and struck the pedestrian, police said. The pedestrian went into the windshield after impact, according to police, and then fell to the pavement.

Police said the driver of the Volkswagen was not injured in the crash.
