One person is dead after crashing into a tree and a power pole Saturday evening in Kansas City, according to police.

Police responded around 5:10 p.m. to the area of Troost Avenue and East 75th Terrace, Sgt. Jake Becchina, a spokesman for the Kansas City Police Department, said in a news release.

A black Chevy Silverado traveling at a high speed south on Troost swerved around a metro bus and a blue PT Crusier, clipping the PT Cruiser on his right front, Becchina said.

The Chevy hit the curb as it left the roadway to the right. Then, the vehicle hit a tree and a large metal power pole.

Officials pronounced the Chevy driver dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt, police said.

The driver of the PT Cruiser and her two children were not injured, and no contact was made with the metro bus.

The death was the 38th road fatality in Kansas City this year, according to police.
