Update: Lee’s Summit police on Friday identified the teen worker as William M. Hampton and said he was 16 years old, not 17 as police reported Thursday. The latest story is posted here.

A 17-year-old worker is dead following an incident at a Lee’s Summit recycling center, according to officials.

Officers responded around 10 a.m. to the Lee’s Summit Resource Recovery Park, an area used for yard waste recycling and bulk trash disposal, which was being leased by a private third-party company, said Sgt. Chris Depue, a spokesman for the Lee’s Summit Police Department, in a news release.

Officials located the injured 17-year-old employee of the private company, who was pinned between a tractor trailer rig and its trailer, Depue said.

The teen was transported to a trauma center, where he was pronounced dead. His name has not yet been released.

The Lee’s Summit Police Department traffic unit will investigate the incident. Investigators will reconstruct the scene and gather evidence.
