Cyclist dies after traveling wrong direction on one-way street in Kansas City and crashing

An electric bicycle rider died after traveling the wrong direction on a one-way street and hitting a vehicle.

Officers responded at 6:40 p.m. Tuesday to the area of 25th Street and Chestnut Avenue, where the driver of a black CST Scout Electric Bicycle had traveled the wrong way on Chestnut and struck a white Honda Pilot on 25th, said Sgt. Jake Becchina with the Kansas City Police Department in a news release.

Upon impact, the rider was ejected from the bicycle.

Emergency medical crews transported the cyclist to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

This was the 21st road fatality this year, compared to 31 deaths at this time last year, according to data tracked by police.
