Three people were injured in an Independence fire at an apartment Friday evening, according to a release from city officials.

Crews with the Independence Fire Department were dispatched to a multi-family apartment building on the 3300 block of South Sterling Avenue around 10:48 p.m., the release indicated.

Upon arrival, firefighters found smoke and fire inside an apartment unit and began to work the scene.

By 10:57 p.m., the fire had been put out.

The three injured sustained “moderate injuries,” according to the city, and were treated on scene by paramedics. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
