Two young kids among those taken to hospital after fire engulfed a Johnson County home
Four people, including two young children, were taken to the hospital after an early morning fire swept through their Overland Park home, a fire department spokesman said.
Firefighters from both Overland Park and Lenexa fire departments responded just after 1 a.m. Friday to reports of a house on fire in the 8700 bock of West 82nd Street, said Jason Rhodes, media manager for the Overland Park Fire Department.
The first fire crews to arrive reported seeing heavy smoke and fire coming from the single-story home. Everyone had escaped the fire safely. However, two adults and two children were taken to a hospital in stable condition, Rhodes said.
Firefighters attacked the blaze and searched the home to make sure no one else was inside. They found a dog and rescued it from a back bedroom, Rhodes said.
Fire crews brought the blaze under control in about an hour. The home sustained significant fire and smoke damage throughout. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, Rhodes said.
