Police have identified a 28-year-old man who was killed early Wednesday in a one-vehicle accident just after midnight at Belmont and Wilson avenues in northeast Kansas City as Kareem Akbar Hurley Jr.
According to initial police reports, Hurley was southbound on Belmont and lost control of the vehicle. The maroon Chevrolet Suburban left the roadway, struck a tree and then the retaining wall of the Sheffield Cemetery.
Hurley, a Kansas City resident, died at the scene. No other injuries were reported.
Police continue to investigate the incident.
