Pedestrian dead, Kansas City police officer seriously hurt after crash on Truman Road

A pedestrian was killed and a Kansas City officer was seriously injured late Wednesday following a crash between a police vehicle and another vehicle, according to Kansas City police.

Sgt. Jake Becchina, a KCPD spokesman, said in a statement early Thursday morning that the crash occurred near the intersection of Truman Road and Benton Boulevard.

The pedestrian was declared dead at the scene, Becchina said, and the police officer was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. He said the driver of the other vehicle was detained as part of the police investigation.
