A water main break in the Crossroads led to flooding, suspended KC Streetcar service
Update: KC Streetcar service has resumed as of 8:17 p.m. on Friday evening.
Kansas City streetcar service was temporarily suspended as a main break in the Crossroads led to water flooding the streets on Friday evening.
Water flowed at 6:49 p.m. through 17th Street between Main Street and Walnut Street, according to a message from the KC Streetcar’s social media page.
Service is expected to continue once the tracks are cleaned of debris and the street is free of flooding, the page said.
About a half hour later the page announced that Kansas City Water Services had arrived to provide assistance. Authorities turned off the water valve, and shortly after the flooding began to reside.
Shortly after 7 p.m., Kansas City Water Services warned customers of the main break and told them to expect “low water pressure or no water” from south of the river to 63rd Street. An investigation into the water pressure issues will continue.
By 7:30 p.m. the City of Kansas City twitter page said crews were still responding to the main break, which impacted a large portion of the Crossroads area
At 8:14 p.m., water pressure was “stabilized though out the city,” the page said.
Only a few minutes later KC Streetcar service resumed, the transit system’s page said, while applauding the work of Kansas City firefighters, police and more.
At 8:30 p.m., Mayor Quinton Lucas said teams will be working on the break through tonight and tomorrow, to ensure water service remains stable.
