Driver killed in rollover crash after running off highway in Three Trails Crossings in KC

A driver was ejected and killed in a rollover crash after running off the highway in the Three Trails Crossings in south Kansas City early Friday, a police spokeswoman said.

The crash occurred about 3:35 a.m. Friday on the exit ramp from eastbound Interstate 435 to southbound Interstate in what was formerly known as the Grandview Triangle, said Officer Donna Drake, a spokeswoman for the Kansas City Police Department.

The female driver was in a purple Nissan Murano when she struck a concrete barrier on a curve and then went off the highway, Drake said. The crossover SUV then overturned several times before coming to rest under a bridge.

The driver, who was alone in the SUV, was ejected during the crash. She was taken to a hospital were she was pronounced dead, Drake said.

The crash is the 87th traffic fatality in Kansas City this year, compared to 83 by this time last year.

The exit ramp was closed to all traffic for about two ours while the crash was investigated.
