Around 3 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to a reported structure fire in the 9500 block of West 77th Terrace, the department said in a statement. Information provided to responding fire crews indicated one person was possibly trapped inside.

Responding firefighters worked to extinguish the flames from the exterior after arriving on scene. The sole person killed in the fire was discovered after an initial search, the department said in the statement.

It took roughly 40 minutes for firefighters to bring the blaze under control, the department said. Both units of the duplex were damaged by flames.
