Teen killed in head-on crash near Liberty North High School in Clay County

A teenage boy died after he lost control of his car, sideswiped a pickup truck and crashed head on into another truck near Liberty North High School Wednesday night, a spokeswoman for the Clay County Sheriff’s Office said.

The collision occurred about 7:15 p.m. on Missouri A highway near 112th Street, said Sarah Boyd, a spokeswoman for the sheriff’s office.

The teen lost control of a Chevrolet Impala he was driving and sideswiped a Ford F-150. The Impala then collided head on with a Dodge Ram, she said.

The teen was declared dead at the scene. His identity was being withheld until family could notify relatives.

Two adults and two children in the Dodge were taken to the hospital with moderate injuries. The driver of the Ford was not injured.

A smartwatch worn by one of the persons in the Dodge alerted deputies by calling 911 after detecting the crash, Boyd said.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office’s traffic safety unit continues to investigate the crash.
