Driver, 73, critically injured when disabled car broadsided on I-70
The 73-year-old driver of a Geo Metro was critically injured Monday morning when his car became disabled on eastbound Interstate 70 and was hit by other vehicles.
The crash occurred about 5:40 a.m. when the Geo became disabled and was struck by an eastbound vehicle, which left the scene.
The Geo ended up stopped in the eastbound lanes and then was broadsided by several other vehicles. A total of six vehicles were involved in the crash.
The driver of the Geo was taken to a hospital with critical injuries. He was the only person injured in the crash.
Police are still searching for the vehicle that left the scene of the crash.
The crash closed down the eastbound lanes of I-70 for about an hour. The highway was not fully reopened until about two hours after the crash.
