A Kansas City driver was ejected from car and critically injured in Saturday crash

A driver is in critical condition after their car swerved to avoid a semi-truck and then tumbled onto a Kansas City interstate median, according to police.

Kansas city officers responded to calls of a collision at 2:35 p.m. on Saturday near Interstate 435 and Wornall Road, said Capt. Leslie Foreman, a spokeswoman for the department.

Detectives discovered that a Chevrolet Trailblazer driving east on Interstate 435 tried to switch lanes, but almost hit a semi-truck and trailer. The driver of the Trailblazer then swerved to avoid a crash, Foreman said.

As the vehicle turned, it began to slide, and shortly after, tumbled onto its side. The Chevrolet rolled multiple times before landing on the interstate’s concrete median, she said.

The driver was ejected from the back window of the car and landed in the middle lane of the interstate. The person was transported to a hospital with critical injuries and is currently in critical condition, according to Foreman.

The interstate lanes near Wornall Road were closed to traffic for about three hours.
