Two people were taken to the hospital on Tuesday night with serious injuries after a crash on Interstate 435 in Overland Park, according to police.

Police officers were called around 9 p.m. to investigate the crash on Westbound I-435 near the exit ramp at Roe Avenue, Capt. Gary Mason of Overland Park police said in a statement Tuesday night.

Early reports from investigators say one vehicle crashed into a concrete barrier on the highway. Two witnesses stopped along the roadside to offer help, and another driver crashed into those vehicles.

Mason said in an emailed statement Tuesday night that the highway was closed off at Roe Avenue as the investigation was underway. Drivers were being diverted through the exit and entrance ramps between Roe and Nall avenues.

Overland Park police were asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash or may have information that would help their investigation to contact the department at 913-895-6300.
