A 5-year-old student was struck and injured by a school bus at a neighborhood stop in Peculiar, Missouri, Tuesday, according to police.

Around 8:25 a.m., emergency services were dispatched the 21300 block of Pin Oak Lane. The child was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the Peculiar Police Department indicated in a release.

In an email sent to Bridle Ridge Elementary School parents, a spokesperson with the Raymore-Peculiar School District said the child was approaching the bus at a neighborhood stop as it pulled away. The vehicle then hit the student’s feet.

The child was fully conscious after the incident, and neither the driver nor other students were injured, according to the email.

A second bus was sent to take the rest of the students to school, while many were picked up by their parents.

“The safety of our students, faculty, and staff is always a number one priority,” the email read.

The extent of the child’s injuries have not been released.
