Shawnee was the first community founded in Johnson County. Incorporated in 1856 as Gum Springs, it was the first county seat.
Explore the downtown area, and also Shawnee’s Pioneer Crossing Park, which features two sculptures created by artist Charles Goslin, and serves as a gateway to the city and the nearby downtown area.
