‘She’s breathing now’: Video shows Kansas City police officers save life of baby girl
A Kansas City police officer is being credited with saving the life of a baby girl last week who had stopped breathing — and the rescue was caught on the officer’s body camera.
Officer Richard DuChaine and his partner, Officer Charles Owen, responded to a medical call regarding a 1-month-old girl who wasn’t breathing on Thursday, the Kansas City Police Department said on Twitter.
The officers arrived before medical crews and sprinted into the house. The father of the infant handed her over to DuChaine who began infant chest compressions.
At the suggestion of Owen, DuChaine turned the baby over and hit her on the back.
“C’mon sweetie,” DuChaine coaxed her. “C’mon.”
Owen told DuChaine to hit her a little harder, which appeared to have done the trick.
“There she goes,” DuChaine said.
Moments later, Owen said: “She’s breathing now.”
DuChaine turned the girl on her side and Owen checked for obstructions.
The officers later visited the infant at the hospital where DuChaine posed for a picture with her.
