Motorcyclist dies after colliding with a box truck turning into alley in Independence

A motorcyclist died after crashing into a box truck that was turning into an alley while on U.S. 24 in Independence, a police spokesman said Friday.

The fatal collision occurred shortly after 1 p.m. Friday near Noland Road on U.S. 24, which is also known as Independence Avenue, said Sgt. Jason Petersen with the Independence Police Department’s accident investigation unit.

The motorcyclist was headed east and struck the truck. The truck, which had been headed west on U.S. 24, had turned left to go into an alley,which was on the south side of the road, Petersen said.

The motorcyclist was killed in the collision. The person’s identity was being withheld until family could be notified.

The driver of the truck was not injured and was cooperating with police, Petersen said.

The crash remains under investigation.
