A Kansas City community center is closed after a vehicle drove into the building Wednesday night, officials said.

A white Buick Regal drove through the Southeast Community Center in Swope Park around 6:30 p.m. near the building’s front entrance, said Rick Castillo, park ranger supervisor for Kansas City Parks and Recreation.

The building was open at the time, but nobody inside was injured, Castillo said.

After initially fleeing the scene, the driver was taken to a hospital with minor injuries, he said.

The Kansas City Police Department is investigating the incident.

Castillo said contractors have visited the community center, and it’s not yet clear when the building will reopen. He said the building will remain closed until it is deemed structurally sound.
