Silver alert canceled after missing 80-year-old man with dementia is found safe

Update: Walter L. Allen has been found and is safe, a police spokeswoman said.

Police asked for help finding 80-year-old Walter L. Allen of Kansas City, a former construction worker with dementia, who wandered off in search of his crew Thursday morning.

A silver alert was issued for Allen who disappeared shortly after 6 a.m. Thursday. He was last seen in the area of East 23rd Street and Walrond Avenue, according to Officer Donna Drake, a Kansas City Police Department spokeswoman. He is considered to be an an endangered person.

Allen was described as a Black man, about 5-feet-3-inches tall and weighing 140 pounds. He has black and gray hair, brown eyes and a goatee. He was wearing a black fisherman’s hat, black pants and a black, red, white and gray plaid coat.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call the Kansas City Police Department’s missing person’s unit at 816-234-5220 or 911.
