Bumper-to-bumper: SB I-435 in Kansas City reopens following three vehicle injury crash
Update: Southbound Interstate 435 reopened shortly before 7:45 a.m. after being closed for two hours because of a multi-vehicle injury crash early Friday, Kansas City Scout reported on Twitter.
Commuters who regularly use southbound Interstate 435 on Kansas City’s east side might want to find an alternative route after a three-vehicle crash has forced the closure of the highway early Friday.
The crash occurred about 5:30 a.m. near Bannister Road, according to a Kansas City Police Department dispatcher. Two people were critically injured in the crash, but their injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
The crash, which occurred at the beginning of Friday’s rush hour, was causing traffic to backup beyond Gregory Boulevard. Drivers found themselves in bumper-to-bumper traffic that at times was a near standstill, Kansas City Scout traffic cameras showed.
Drivers were being urged to find a different route to avoid the area.
